Happy Monday from Mothership. Whether you love 'em or hate 'em, Mondays are always going to be in your life. So how about some music to get you through your day?
Below are 15 songs that make Monday a little more bearable.
1. "Monday Morning" by Fleetwood Mac
What better way to start your day than with Fleetwood Mac? This track from 1975 could cure any Monday blues.
2. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2
This is the song that wakes me up every morning. Literally, I have this song set as the sound to my iPhone's alarms. When this plays, I can't help but smile. It fills my entire body with joy, and let's me know that I can handle whatever my day has in store. Bono's voice is just that powerful.
3. "Strangelove" by Depeche Mode
Where my Modies at?! I could be in the worst mood or having the worst day, and this song would make everything good again. If you think of Monday as the bane of your existence, then you should listen to Depeche Mode.
4. "Monday, Monday" by The Mamas & The Papas
Taking us back to 1966, The Mamas & The Papas capture that lazy Monday morning sound perfectly. The best way to listen to this song is curled up in bed with a large cup of coffee. Lots of cream and sugar, please.
5. "Light On" by Maggie Rogers
If you saw my last Mixtape, then you know I'm a big Maggie Rogers fan. This song in particular is the one I go to when I have a slow morning. Put it on, yawn it out, do some stretches, and get ready to tackle your day.
6. "The New Day" by Greta Van Fleet
As my favorite GVF song, "The New Day" is the perfect way to kick off the week on the right foot. I love lead singer Josh's voice and drummer Danny's drum fills. Welcome your Monday with open arms.
7. "New Moon on Monday" by Duran Duran
Duran - and I can not stress this enough - Duran. Oh how I love Duran Duran. It might not be my favorite song of theirs (we'll get to that later), but it's still a bop and had Monday in the title.
8. "Lazarus Heart" by Sting
This song sounds like how I like my Mondays to be: slow and calm in the beginning before picking up to end with some gusto. It's soft rock that's bound to get you moving.
9. "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel
You may know this as the boombox song from the incredible 1989 film Say Anything, but if not then you need to listen. Spotify likes to mess with me by randomly taking Peter Gabriel's music off and putting it back on. This is my go-to "I've got a case of the Mondays" song.
10. "Manic Monday" by The Bangles
Mondays in 1985 have a bit more pep in their step, I guess.
11. "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)" by Backstreet Boys
Having a terrible Monday? Feeling like all is lost? Only one way to fix it: Backstreet Boys.
12. "Save a Prayer" by Duran Duran
I promised you there'd be more Duran Duran, and I'm a woman of my word.
13. "Blue Monday" by New Order
Every Monday needs a little synth, am I right or am I right?
14. "Electric Blue" by ICEHOUSE
A friend texted me this morning about how great the underrated Australian '80s band ICEHOUSE is. I already knew, so why not include it in this list? This song in particular gets ya movin' and groovin' as if it were the weekend.
15. "Friday I'm In Love" by The Cure
It's never too early to start dreaming about Friday.
